Catechesis for the children of our parish is a key component of our mission of evangelization.
Classes for children in grades Kindergarten - Sixth are held Sunday mornings from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., October - April in the Mahaney Church Hall.

Confirmation Preparation (Grades 9-10)
Teens preparing for Confirmation and their parents MUST attend one of the following meetings for information on class meeting dates/times/locations and how the program will work. Please bring your calendars because you will be creating your unique schedule for the year at that meeting. It must be done at the meeting. This is a great opportunity to set up your schedule to fit your families’ commitments.
2026-2027 PARENT MEETING DATES
In order to help the 9th grade families better understand the program, we will have the 10th graders come for the first hour, as they are aware of program requirements and just need to schedule classes. They will come for the first 45-60 minutes then the 9th grade families on the second hour. You will only be allowed to take ONE one day block this year – and there will be a new required block called Saints for 10th graders. All teens take 10 blocks over 2 years (5 required and 5 electives).
Sunday, Sept. 13th at Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament at 12:15pm for 10th grade
and 1:15pm for 9th grade and then at 6pm for 10th grade and 7pm for 9th grade in the Salerno Room in our Scalabrini Center (school building)
Monday, Sept. 14th at Holy Cross Parish (formerly St. Mark’s in North Utica in the church basement) at 6pm for 10th grade and 7pm for 9th grade
Sunday, Sept. 20th at Seton Center on Lourdes Campus at 6pm for 10th grade and 7pm for 9th grade
Tuesday, Sept. 22nd at Seton Center on Lourdes Campus at 6pm for 10th grade and 7pm for 9th grade
Sunday, Sept 27th at St. Patrick/St. Anthony’s Church in Chadwicks in the church basement at 12:15pm for 10th grade and 1:15pm for 9th grade
Monday, Sept. 28nd at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament in the school building at 6pm for 10th grade and 7pm for 9th grade
Tuesday, Sept 29th at St Mary’s Clinton in the school gym at 6pm for 10th grade and 7pm for 9th grade
**Please Note: Regardless of where/when you decide to take classes, your registration form and payment are still due to St. Anthony & St. Agnes.

Sacramental Preparation
First Communion Preparation is a 2 year program! Children should be enrolled in Faith Formation for both first and second grade classes.
Children who did not receive their First Communion in Second Grade, can still make it any year, but will need to participate in some additional preparation.
Confirmation is a 2 year program as well. Teens will need to be enrolled in the Greater Utica Catholic Teen Formation Program. The sacrament of Confirmation is typically administered in 10th grade.
NOTE FOR CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES:
Regardless of where you go for classes, you will still receive the sacrament with your own parish. Your parish contact will remain Rick Hensel (rhensel@syrdio.org). More information regarding Confirmation prep, rehearsal, and Mass, will be communicated by Rick.
